Frequently asked questions
Why license plate tweets?
Sending a regular tweet about a driver is like slamming the horn when you're already on your driveway or putting off (friendly) hand gestures until you're at the dinner table; someone will get your message but not the one who it is meant for. A license plate tweet is delivered to the driver of a vehicle or saved for later - until the vehicle is registered.
Why use Twitter?
Because Twitter is the perfect tool for sending quick license plate messages. It's free and easy to use. And your license plate tweets are posted on Twitter and DashTweet so you get the best of both worlds.
Who can read my license plate tweet?
Well, that depends on how you send it:
- Send a @reply and it can be read by all Twitter and DashTweet users:
@dashtweet + LICENSE PLATE + MESSAGE - Send a directe message and it can only be read by the driver on the DashTweet website:
D dashtweet + LICENSE PLATE + MESSAGE
Do I have to begin my @reply with @dashtweet?
No, you don't. As long as you put the LICENSE PLATE right after the @dashtweet (separated by a space of course) we'll know its a license plate tweet. For example, this will work too:
- http://twitpic.com/gz7kw @dashtweet VA-BVJUBES Nice, um, spare rim.
How should I enter the license plate in my tweet?
Enter it as 'STATE-NUMBER'; the license plate's state and number separated by a dash (-).
- STATE: The two letter state abbreviation of the state where the license plate was issued.
- NUMBER: The letters and/or numbers displayed on the license plate. Omit any space, dash or special character (e.g. heart, star, etc.)
And don't worry about using upper or lower case letters, both will work. Here are some examples:
- For Arizona license plate '345UIR2' enter: CA-345UIR2
- For California license plate 'I♥MOM' enter: CA-IMOM
- For Texas license plate '345-UIR' enter: TX-345UIR
Do I have to sign in before I can DashTweet?
No, anybody with a Twitter account can send a DashTweet that will be posted on our site. Just make sure to include the @dashtweet + LICENSE PLATE in your message. Once you sign in, any sent or received messages will be listed under your account.
